Rickreall Farm Supply, Inc. started in 1947, when the survivors of World War II returned home to work. They found that their farm machinery was out-dated, rusted, and needed repair badly.
A group of farmers in the Rickreall area decided to fill the need for service by forming a corporation in 1947. The new corporation formed was called Rickreall Farm Supply, Inc. (RFS). RFS officially began with just two employees.
The business itself has been in the same location near the junction of Highways 99W and 22 for over 55 years, although it operated an additional store in Independence until 1980.
Alton Greenwade who was the general manager of RFS from 1980 - 1996, was a teenager and working for the gas station next door when RFS opened its doors originally. “There had been a lapse of years when farm machinery couldn’t be purchased because of the war,” Greenwade said. As a result of that, farmers needed new equipment like combines, new tractors, and self propelled equipment.
When the group of local farmers in 1947 decided to incorporate, they sold stocks and raised $30,000 to start the business. The money was then used to build a 6,000 square foot salesroom and shop. |
